Sail Chat 20th April

Pleasant easterly wind blowing but still a bit chilly and cloudy for this days sailing. John Hollands and Brian were on duty, whilst Susan and Ellen were time keeping. Four Comets out Tim, James, Peter OTI and Alex with Jade in their first race in their new Comet also a lone Enterprise me with Jane. It was a close race and the runs upriver were frisky at times. Tim clung to my transom all the race and won on handicap by one second.

In the afternoon in the Enterprises I was delighted to be crewed by Annabell and the Dutchess borrowed Sarah's boat and was crewed by Sam, Annabell's boyfriend. We had a close and friendly race. Another good show by the Comets with Richard Page joining in (What!), Tim, James and Peter OTI. Two GP's out with Kevin and Maddie and Trevor with Sue. The Merlins had a good scrap with Stu and daughter Immy, John with Deirdre and Hywel with Claude and it was a good day for spinnakers.

Delicious cakes by jolly Ellie and sandwiches by Jane were served and Brian tended the bar. Good to see other family members not so often seen. Sarah made a few announcements and many congratulated Tim for becoming Comet Fleet Captain. The Sailing Secretary will be delighted! Nigel gallantly took Ellen's place in the box with Susan.

Profound thanks must go to John Hollands, John Dunman and Derek May for making such good progress at fitting the new coming alongside boards it is saving the club a great deal of money.

Next week the famous Round The Island Race and Supper on Saturday, one of the club highlights'
