Sailchat Regatta and Sunday 29th June 2025

I made no mention of the glorious regatta we had last week which was blessed by really hot weather varying breezes from the south west on Saturday and a real blast or two on the Sunday. There were a variety of boats from all our classes and a Lightning from up-river but none from the sky. Our splendid marquee, with sides rolled up withstood all that Aeolus could throw and James Bay and band was both rocking and melodic, truly a different side of our modest James. Super credit (new youth terminology) to all the organisers and in the words of John Bell ''the very best of Commodores and partners''.
Yesterday 29th brought more hot sunshine and variable breezes from the SSW of from 6 to 8 mph according to where one was on the river. In charge were the rather contrasting styles of the Hon Sailing Sec and the Aviator. Sensible short courses were supplied mainly in the wind and some of the lifts provided by it were really enjoyable. Due to the carnival of sail in Salcombe only a select few gathered dominated by the Comet class of James, Tim and Peter, variety provided by Elise in the RS Aero and me with Dutch Paul in the Ent. Perfect race management as the race finished on the stroke of one! Timekeeping was by Lucy York and Sarah P, when she wasn't helping get boats ready.
To prove our numbers we all sat round one table for lunch. In the afternoon we were joined by Roger and a rare Laser, Elize back home for homework. Nice short race due to soaring temperatures. Light relief provided as Peters boat made a bid for freedom and Paul threw himself into the river to retrieve, Peter having a pint. Super 'healthy' tea by Amelia which gets the two slice award. Well done all and fair winds to our mates on holiday in Salcombe.
