Sail Chat 30th August
The morning handicap race saw three Comets, (Dave, Tim and James with Claude) and Phil braving the gusts single-handed in his Enterprise. The course was E-I with a good SW breeze and the sun was shining! Dave had a great start until he encountered a very localised 'tornado' (his words) at the windward mark and made a short stop at his favourite houseboat. This gave Tim the opening he needed to storm into first place which he maintained until the finish. Everyone stayed dry.
The wind picked up for the afternoon points race with one Merlin (Stuart and Nicola), five Comets (Dave with Phil, Alex, Tim, George and James), one Enterprise (Ian with Sarah) and one GP (John with Sue). Some challenging conditions kept everyone on their toes and the duty team busy. Ian was unfortunately forced to retire due to damage on the second lap. George led the Comet fleet for most of the race, while Dave and Phil steadily worked their way through the ranks as others dealt with capsizes and tree/weed entanglements. They eventually took the lead on the final lap crossing the finish line to take the honours. All enjoyed a delicious tea, with an especially good Victoria Sandwich, thanks to Deirdre.
