Sail Chat 10th August

Very light winds and hot sunny weather greeted us as welcomed long time members and voluntary exiles from Lymington to help officiate. Steve was race officer, with deputy David Gettings and Sue was catering. Real loyalty that Sue and Steve continue to do a duty every year.
Not to onerous in the morning with only Tim (fresh from victory in the Mermaid class at Cowes) in his Comet and me solo in the Enterprise. The breeze, such as it was, first from the south east, then south and often not there, was about 2 to 3 mph. We had an interesting battle and were never far apart as we both searched the whole of the short course for ripple. There was one strange gust opposite the club which shot me forward, then spun and caused havoc, Tim was almost opposite in no breeze at all. Tim easily maintained his winning ways although in something of a contrast to the size and numbers of his other fleet.
In the afternoon the Comets presented the best fleet of Tim, George with Chris, James and Peter OTI. There was a close race with Tim, yet again, getting a win. Ian and I went out solo in our Enterprises to very similar light conditions with John and Sue in a GP. I hit Peter when on port coming of the gybe mark and as a 720 in those conditions would have really done me I retired as did Peter later and it was hot! Ian made a good fist of the conditions.
Great to see Elise out in the afternoon in her Aero, skipping along in the light breeze. No Merlins out.
On the mic, bell, horn and time sheet was Debbie with her Beau Nigel ( the latter also did some sweeping, you are welcome anytime).
Scrumptious tea from Sue (as always) two pieces award again! Assisted by Susie, Sarah and John on the bar and cash machine. After in the bar David gave a group of us a treatise on 'sugar rush and crash' and was seen with a sugar free drink! Amelia your ghostly presence was felt. With guilt I quaffed my pint.
See you next week with a trifle more wind please.
PS Congratulations to Phil and Fran for being 1st Handicap & Merlin at Salcombe.
Phill
