Sprightly easterly with a touch of north heralded this our first real day of sun, warmth and somewhat relaxed meeting conditions at HSC this year. John Heath and Andrew Mills were in charge and Mary with Hillary were the vivacious and exacting Time Keepers. With a straightforward course I to E we were to enjoy the best wind direction for a moderate stream. In the morning were Simon and Claude Merlin, David Solo and me with Jane Enterprise. The Merlin soon sped away with spinnaker up. Nice race for just over the hour and ten.
The afternoon brought many more boats out with a good showing from the GP’s. Derek/Sue, John/Ali, George/Chris, Trevor/Alison and Peter OTI with Paul, our new Dutch friend.
The Merlins had Andrew/Ellie, Hywell/Flynn, Simon/Claude, John Deirdre, Nigel with the very welcome return of Annabel our Glaswegian migrant and Philip with the very small Charlie. The course had been split in the afternoon with one extra turning mark at each end of the course this caused some confusion as did the port and starboard rule. Cracking win by Andrew and Ellie (who also makes super cake)..
In the Handicap fleet there was a little mix as Ellen sailed David’s Solo, he sailed Peter’s Comet and they had a good equal race.
The Enterprises had another very close match race with the Chambers and Parkers in contention. Warm welcome back to Christopher another hard working Teacher.
The Pop Up Bar and tea stall was run by Andrew, Ellie, Dorothy and our laid back Barman Alan. 15 Boats out yippee!
See you next week. Phill
