Sunday 19th July was overcast and initially drizzly with a light northerly. This breeze flicked about a bit and increasingly there was a bit of a beat down river. Trevor and Alan, the duty team, set a short E to H course which contained the best of the wind. Alison Philips kept time.
The first off were Simon and Claude in the Merlin with David and Honey in a Comet and Ben in his Laser. No incidents I saw and a short race for the Merlin as it completed the three laps quickly.
Next off were the two Enterprises, Ian in charge this week, with Sophie and Me with Jane. Our start coincided with a rapid 180 by the wind which, briefly made it a gybe, running start. Again this week we had the best of the wind and as the weather started to clear, and warm up, it became a really pleasant sail with the H mark even becoming, briefly, a windward mark.
Next out was a flurry of GP’s with a very welcome return of Derek and the crew of all seasons, Mary. John and Keith were in the other two untroubled, or frustrated, by no crew.
By the early afternoon it was sunny and warm requiring a fairly prompt exit from the club to avoid the hoards of youth who now invade us and who the Police on both sides of the river seem incapable of helping us with.
Next Sunday Jane and I are on duty quite a few are away so please come along and sail and support us. If it looks like being hot and sunny we may try and start the races earlier for reasons mentioned above. You will be informed of race times and participants as usual.
