Cloudy day with a northerly blowing with a bit of east in it, enough to have a down river start. It could be frisky off Bell Hill but was tricky upriver. Sensible short course set for the morning, down to H, across the river to a mark and then back up to an E mark. Trevor and Malcolm presided. Graham made a welcome return in a Comet, having a rest from being Dad. George came out in his Comet and there was Simon with Claude in his Merlin, Keith with granddaughter Hazel in the GP, Jane with Michaela (welcomed back from France) and Me with Daniel ( a super young crew), brother of Hazel in Enterprises. Tricky wind but with some nice little surges. Time was by Marylyn and Chris.
The afternoon presented a slight shift in the wind, making it more a straightforward beat and run with the marks adjusted accordingly. Just one GP John and Ali, two Merlins John and Deirdre and Hywell with small person Evan. In the Handicap fleet a return of the Hon Sailing Secretary in his Solo and George in the Comet. Two Enterprises doing battle, Jane now with Sue and Me with Ra. The wind had freshened a bit so it was quite exciting at times but the Ladies prevailed after a close contest. Sadly my last race with my winning crew Ra, for some time, as her brother has claimed her but the 2017 Enterprise open will be an abiding memory, the lucky 7’s!
Tea was by Michaela and Mack and Bar was by Nick and Mack.
Sail Chat wishes Alison Phillips a rapid return to health and a prompt return to boating.
Enterprise Open next Sunday first start 11:00. Visitors welcome.
