Sail Chat: 26.05.2019

Sunday 26th May gave us sun and cloud with a nice brisk breeze of 12 to 15 mph from the south west. Many previous visitors from our open day turned up, keeping Nigel, Ellen, Duncan, John Hollands and Deirdre busy. Simon and Graham, the race officers, set a windward E to leeward I course for the only three racers, Christopher/Timmy, me with Lucy York in Enterprises and David in his Solo. Close racing followed for two laps until I severely impeded David at the windward mark, causing him to capsize and whilst performing my penalties Christopher sped away. Whilst we were racing the visiting children and adults were out on the water enjoying Toppers, a GP and an Enterprise. Ellen baptised a prospective member who promptly joined! Perhaps that is the playing in test we should apply? Richard also cruised his Enterprise with James and Luke.

In the afternoon first out in Enterprises were Christopher and Timmy, Ian with Susie, Sophie with Jane and Howard with B.I.L. In the GP’s were John with Claude and Keith with Deirdre (multi-tasking). John was over the line due to a technicality but managed to catch the others up. Ben bombed about on his Laser and won and a lone Merlin went out with Richard Parslow and friend driving Simon’s boat.

Sumptuous tea from Lucy and Brian (cakes to die for), Barman John had the technology under control, timekeeping by Sarah/Jane am and Sarah/Alison H pm. I was a marvel with the flags. Nigel made announcements and we sang Happy Birthday to Peter who had modestly slipped away.

Have a good week all and ”Keep on Sailing”.

Phill
