Sail Chat: 21.07.2019

Epic day as the Hampton Ferry celebrated 500 years and Dave and Sue pushed the boat out big time with a free Ferry, live band and singer and a BBQ. Also for me back sailing again. Molesey Junior Rowing Regatta also on so a bit frantic on the river but the Commodore was on it as he performed a manoeuvre, any sheep dog would have been proud of, shepherding the rowing youth, all looking backwards, away from our starting line in Garrick. Nice warm tee shirt job from the south west, 10 to 12 mph and definitely sun cream time.

Welcome return of the Salcombe sailors so the club came alive. In the morning quite a few visitors too and a couple of the families which are becoming regular now. Healthy showing in the handicap with Helen and Chris, Jane with Harry (emerging super crew)  and me  with Connie  {another crewing gem) in Enterprises, David Solo, the Master Comet, Claude Topper and Rob with Emily and Ava GP14. Perfect timing from race team and keepers Jo and Nicki. Usual banter and humour from veteran barman Alan.

Class racing in slightly more wind had Ian and Andrew, Chris with Michaela, Sophie and Jane, Ellen and Lucy, Alexandra with me, Howard with Howard and Stuart with Elise all Enterprises. GP’s competing were team Derek and Mary, George with Chris (but the rudder broke), John and Ali, Keith with Susan and James and Fiona. Close racing in both these classes as leads swapped. Two Merlins out Hywell with Claude and Rob with Sue. In the Handicap fleet were David Solo, Nigel Solo and Ben Laser. Altogether a good turn out folks well done!

Tea was excellent with delicious cakes by Lucy and Sonja a male was also seen assisting- HSC makes another small step etc.

With the Tour de France building to a climax with our Welshman battling two Frenchmen – I am reminded that our own ‘Ride for London‘ will be coming through the weekend 3rd and 4th August so remember the road closures.

Hot week ahead see you Sunday or if you are training Saturday?

Philip
