After a slightly mad Ladies’ Night which only Kevin could have cooked up, just a very few mustered on the Sunday, perhaps reflecting it’s success. We had a light northerly with just a tad of east in it. John Bell set a very sensible course for the conditions with an E to starboard and an H off Bell Hill to port. David came out in his Solo, Jane with Brian, and me with Connie in Enterprises. It was really tricky because of the wind direction and the increasing stream especially at H mark. David shot off from the start to lead by a leg but at the H mark he stalled without a jib and the two Enterprises sailed through. The Race Officer threatened just one lap but the wind was sufficient to give us the whole hour.
In the afternoon there was a sudden flush of GP’s which was an example to us all. Perhaps they were inspired by the night before. Out came John/Ali, Derek/Mary, Kevin/Maddie, George/Chris, Trevor/Sue, Graham/Lucy and Keith with Susan.
In the Enterprises only Jane with the Hon Sailing Sec and me with Michaela. In the Handicap fleet Nigel in his Solo competed with Brian in a Comet, and two Merlins had Andrew with Ellie and Hywell sailing alone – spinnaker and all!
Interesting manoeuvre’s at E, the mark for all, as all the fleets bunched up and struggled for rights. Overall well mannered, I thought, but the place changing challenged the Timekeepers Claude and Peter. JB likes to see mark rounding discipline!
Stalwart at the Bar David Sammons, helper Peter, delicious tea and cakes from Debbie and Mary Sammons. A very enjoyable sail following an exceptional night before and the last of the fourth series. Frostbite next week so first start earlier at 11:30 (Enterprises) and sausages to follow.
