A very hot and windless morning saw only a duo of Comets (Peter & Claude at the respective helms) take to the water for the morning handicap. Father’s Day, kite surfing, Open Meetings and post nuptials meant many friends were absent. Many congratulations to Alex and Rachel who got married on Saturday.
In the afternoon, John Bell represented the Merlins and taught a ballroom dancer how to sail. Plenty of time to return the favour before November! Four Ents – Stuart & Larysa sailing to a well deserved series win, Sophie and Jane, Ellen & Jon, Ian & a welcome return to Susie. Also four Geeps – Derek & Mary, John & Ali, Trevor and Sue, ‘Pops’ & Lucy. The Comet duo ventured out again in the afternoon along with a very laid back Ben P trying out an Optimist.
The Geeps had obviously bribed the Race Officer to make sure they got in first for the wonderful tea kindly supplied by Chris and Karen. Ellen jumped in the river, Trevor shared some lovely bubbles to celebrate his birthday and the Ent Fleet Captain turned up rather late for a welcome pint. Thanks to the Race team of John & James Heath who did a great job of making the best of the conditions and Nicola and Sarah who patiently sat in the timekeepers’ box and watched us drift round the course.
Looking forward to the Regatta weekend ahead when we are promised some good westerly breezes, sunshine and Pimms not to mention probable sightings of camels and belly dancers on Saturday evening. See you there.
