Hectic Hampton continued Saturday 15th June with the Round the Island Race. It attracted 14 boats which is a much better turn out than in previous years. All our classes were represented and it was run as a pursuit race. There was a healthy southerly on our reach but it was rather demanding opposite Garricks Ait and round Three Tree Island. Meticulous planning by Derek and presentation by Nicky Scaddon ensured a fairly smoothly run race of about 1 hour 20 minutes. The race was won by Hywell and the mighty Flynn (Merlin), 2nd John Hollands and Sue (GP) 3rd Jane and Sophie (Enterprise).
The magnificent Fred and Alex trophy for single handers was won by George (Comet) 2nd Ben (Laser) 3rd Hon Sailing Sec. (Solo). It was followed by a truly sumptuous dinner provided by a very hard working team. Congratulations to the Social Secretary who got so many along.
Sunday 16th brought a very strong and gusty SSW wind and I was at Henley SC with Alexandra, Christopher, Timmy and Michaela and a welcome visit by Sarah and John. But I am told that a few went out and revelled in the strong winds. Brian provided an on water cabaret with Ben that is on film so see it if you can.
Next Week the Regatta! Don’t forget starting times shown in programme as 1200 Saturday and 1100 Sunday. If you are sailing please come in good time. Have a good week and – ‘We’ll meet again don’t know where don’t know when but I know we’ll meet again…………..’
