Sunday 13th August was a fine warm day with little wind to match. For the morning race we had an aggravatingly fickle northerly that sometimes went in circles. Nigel the race officer set a sensible course in the wind with a low F up-river and then an I and an H to to do one loop round before going back to F. Takers Peter/Comet, Simon/Claude Merlin, Chris/ Timmy (welcome sighting) and Ra/me in Enterprises. Not an easy wind at all.
In the afternoon the wind backed to the south west and became steadier. Courses were then set windward leeward. Once again the lone Merlin with Simon and Claude represented the fleet.
In the Ents., we had Chris and Timmy, Sophie and Jane, Ian with Suzie and me with Ra. The Geeps were represented by John and mini crew Rex, George and the irrepressible Ben and Trevor with Sue. Just Peter and Roger (Laser) out in the handicap fleet. Generally much nicer sailing with better wind.
Few itinerants out too in a GP and Mirror- also visits from children of members and ex members; good to see-come again? Rex and Flynn made some additions to the RYA Five Essentials and there was the return of the native in Elvin.
Amazing cream tea from Anna with a towering strawberry cake, Lucy graced the bar and operated the dreaded machine nearly to my satisfaction and the Timekeepers kept it superbly.
To those eager windies it looks good for Thursday!
Have a satisfying week. Phill
