Perfect day for sailing at HSC on Sunday 11th December. Sunshine, clear blue sky and a nice steady west south westerly. This gave us a good beat up river and a poled out or spinnaker run down it.
Splendid show from the Merlin class of six boats including a welcome visit from ex national police dinghy champion Fran Gifford crewed by our very own Amelia, the Aviator having fled to America to avoid the singing.
In the Enterprises Sophie Peerless excelled coming second to Dad Ian. Four of us out this time enjoying one of the best sails of the Frostbite.
No Handicaps out the Hon Sailing Sec. on family duty, Peter crewing in a GP, Ben modelling, socialising and suffering stiff legs! Nigel (sorry I missed you last week) in his Merlin, Roger fiddling with electrics and Brian in his Enterprise.
The GP14’s had a close battle at the front between John and Timmy and Kevin with Maddie. Keith had the master and George the Mistress. Derek was our impeccable Race Officer whilst the recent elevation to the august body of Afterguard was Timekeeping. Malkie was pouring over the takings and Peter OTI was celebrating very exciting news by manning the bar.
Then followed the traditional loud singing with a singular, in tune, solo performance from Sophie Penwarden. Unfortunately the music had to revert to acoustic due to technical difficulties but Hillary hit the keys harder and Roger manned up for the occasion!
See you next week for the Mack and Phill catering show when you can expect………the usual!
