Sail Chat: 09.12.2018

With a forecast for a rushing mighty wind it sort of came to not a lot as the west, north westerly blew mostly way up in the trees. Some interesting puffs came and went but for all it was hug the Surrey bank and hope for a lift as tacking off was back the other way. Good to see our out of port members Tim, Lucy, Ross and Josh. Tim was Race Officer assisted by Alex who mostly cooked sausages.

Out into the clearing skies went George and Sue, Keith and Ellen (sampling all the fleets), Derek with the Commodore and John with Richard Page. All in, the GP fleet, the crew weighting representing anticipation of the big blow.

In the Merlins were Lucy and, I think it was Ross, John Bell with Richard Cass and Hywell junior with Hywell senior.

Nigel (Solo) and Ben (Topper) represented the Handicap fleet.

Our Enterprises had Jane with Sophie, who did a horizon job, Chris with Brian, Colin with Amelia, Ian and Andrew and in the van me with Ra, slightly under-powered. Ian and Andrew crossed the line and celebrated with a ducking.

As Santa was expected at the Children’s Christmas party the races were shortened and fever pitch felt for the red, bearded creature’s arrival!

Last of the series next week as yet another year of wonderful sailing at HSC draws to a close. Your blogger will miss it and all his friends and fleets.
