Must mention Saturday 7th October which was accolade night for our Ladies and especially Deirdre. The Club was decorated like a Caribbean Beach with palm trees and white sand surround drops and even tropical fish floating over-head. There was a shack bar with the prominence of rum and a fair barmaid (not Richard!). This all was presided over by two gangsta style rasta’s who beneath all the plaits looked a bit like John and Kevin! Sounds of reggae drifted in the background. Terrific amount of thought and work produced an astonishingly good evening just hope our beloveds liked the jerk, curry, goat etc and the stumbling waiter service.
Sunday produced a light shifty northerly which sometimes switched to a south westerly and at one stage a southerly. Good showing for the morning with Simon and Claude (Merlin), Peter (Comet), David (Solo), Brian (and blameless crew), Duncan with Annie and me with Timmy (Enterprises). It was fun sailing but required considerable concentration to spot the wind on the river and the shifts. Click for Photo Gallery.
The afternoon brought a slightly more steady wind from the WNW and also Hywel/Lucy, John/ Deirdre, Simon/Claude and Kevin/Maddie in Merlins.
Welcome return of Stuart W with son and Sophie/Jane C, Ian/Suzie/, Ben/Jane N, Aviator/Amelia and Timmy/me, in Enterprises. Much place changing in this race and at least four different leaders before Timmy made it on the last beat and short run in.
In the GP fleet Derek and Mary, Trevor with Sue and Keith bimbling with welcome guest and slight confusion with rig!
Ben stormed to a bullet in Fence Post.
Is the black shiny creature back? Or is it that the purple people eater Merlin has been neglected for some period? Whatever! Said creature has dined on yet another spinnaker. Why do Mink so like Merlins; a mystery?
Next week is Merlin week-end. Hopefully very windy so we can watch the fun and use the bar as it will be run by pure quality.
