Sail Chat: 07.11.2021

Lovely, crisp day with sunshine and a brisk north westerly which swirled and confounded, as it often does from that direction. Race Officers, Father, Daughter Andrew and Ellie, set a windward leeward course, which offered more wind off Bell Hill and less opposite the club and up-river.
GP’s out were Keith and Susan, John with Sue and Derek with Mary. Two Merlins sailing John with Daughter Livvy and Hywell with Nicola, who fortunately had tape to secure a shroud, yet another Merlin falling to the rigours of Hywell!
Good race again in the Handicap fleet as Brian sailed his recently acquired Comet, Petena 2, with Michaela along with George in his Comet and David and Nigel in their Solo’s. Peter watched with some sentiment as his boat for some twenty years was sailed successfully by the two Claygatians.
Just two out in the Enterprises, The Dutchess with Claude and Ian with Belinda, after a very close race the Europeans had it by a boats length. Timing was by veteran sailor and rower Tim and Emily, who is quick on figures, I am told. Domestics were by Me and Suzie Bell, who was a super clearer upper and I learnt a lot about eyes. Nice sociable day but I would rather be sailing.
See you on the water next week. Phill
