After a cracking Dinner, Prize Giving (When some talked over it) and Dance at Brooklands Aircraft Museum on Saturday, Sunday produced a sparkling chilly day with a frisky north easterly. Only those who were hardy went out as there was a strong steam and some challenging gusts. In the Enterprises were Christopher with Michaela, Ian and Amelia and Jane with Sophie. This was an exciting race to watch, and no doubt even more so to take part in, as the lead changed many times, due to skill, opportunity and conditions.
Only one gallant GP, Keith McArthur (to give him his full name!) and the much decorated Ben. They joined the Handicap fleet made up of our Hon Sailing Secretary in his Solo, Brian in the Laser and George in the Comet. These gusty conditions suited the Solo especially.
Party youth showed their mettle in the Merlin fleet as Livvy crewed Dad and Sophie P crewed Hywell along with the ever youthful Stuart and Nicky. Spinnakers billowed as they sped up against the stream.
Good race management by Alex and flag flapping by John Heath. Time by Ali and Debbie. Delicious Shaun sausages by John H and David S.
Then the AGM where our irrepressible Sailing Secretary lightened proceedings with presentations to Margaret McArthur, Hillary, Sue, Susan and bucket loads to Ben. We said good bye to jolly Kevin, and welcomed Nigel and Ellen to the top job – may they have a Root like innings!
Apologies if anyone left out. Phill
